Critical Factors

Several factors determine the return on investment of a grow light system.

PAR

Photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) represents the spectral range (wave band) of the light spectrum from 400 to 700 nanometers that plants and other photosynthetic organisms can use in photosynthesis.

PPF

Photosynthetic Photon Flux (PPF) measures the photosynthetically active radiation emitted by a lighting system per second and expressed in units of μmol/s.

PPFD

Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density (PPFD) measures the amount of light that reaches your plants.  PPFD is a “spot” measurement of a specific location on your plant canopy.  The unit used in measuring PPFD is micromoles per square meter per second (μmol·m−2·s).

PPE

Photosynthesis Photon Efficiency (PPE) is the light output per watt of power input.  The formula is defined as PPF equals photosynthesis photon flux (PPF) divided by input electric power.  PPE is a critical factor in maximized growth lighting systems.
